The DC ore furnace applies DC power to the smelting of the submerged arc furnace. Its main feature is the use of graphite electrodes or self-baking electrodes, and the bottom of the furnace is connected to one pole of the power source. The furnace bottom is both an electric conductor and a melting crucible. The main heat conduction mechanism of DC furnace is direct and stable one-way convection. This heat conduction is superior to AC arc in metallurgical process. It is used in the production of ferrochrome, ferrosilicon, industrial silicon and ferromanganese.
Compared with AC ore furnace, DC ore furnace has a simple structure (one electrode for small and medium-sized DC ore furnace, partial sealing of hood, easy maintenance and smoke treatment), arc stabilization (the scintillation effect is only 50%~70% of AC furnace, high power concentration and high thermal efficiency (high temperature of electrode center of DC ore furnace, concentrated heat, easy to deeply bury the electrode, the bottom of the furnace is not easy to rise), high power factor (natural power of DC ore furnace) The factor is up to 0.94~0.96), and has low smelting power consumption, low electrode consumption (electrode consumption is about 30%~50% of AC furnace), and low operating noise (noise ratio under submerged arc operation) Low 20dB or more), high production efficiency and so on. The main disadvantage of the DC ore furnace is that there are many DC power supply equipments, which have a great influence on the high-order harmonics of the power supply, resulting in the engineering cost of the same capacity of the electric furnace is 10% to 20% higher than that of the AC thermal furnace.
